Reflexology uses the ideas of Chinese medicine that believe energy, or chi, flows through bodily meridians and pressure points and can become blocked. Because meridians end at the foot, massaging particular points on the feet can help to relieve ailments throughout the body. While reflexology is a complicated art, even those just beginning practice can benefit from use with just a few simple basics.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Massage the ball of the foot for conditions that affect the upper body, or thorax, including the circulatory and respiratory systems, the diaphragm, lungs, heart, solar plexus and more.

  2. Step 2

Get relief from digestive conditions or ailments that affect the abdomen and internal organs such as the gall bladder, kidneys, liver, colon and bladder by massage along the arch of the foot.

  3. Step 3

Relieve sciatic nerve pain or conditions that are based in the pelvic region by working the heel of the foot.

  4. Step 4

Work the heel and the ankle for best results when it comes to reproductive problems, as the heel relieves conditions of the pelvis while the ankle focuses on reproductive organs.

  5. Step 5

Find sensitive areas along the inner foot from heel to toe which represent the spinal column, from tail bone to cranium. To use reflexology for specific areas of the spine, it is best to refer to a chart.

Tips & Warnings
  • To get more specific with your reflexology treatment, it is best that you purchase a quality reflexology chart for the feet.
  • Massage techniques can vary from vibration, holding, stimulation and rubbing.
