A tuxedo pillow is a kind of pillow that has a solid front and back with a strip of ribbon attached to the front and center of the pillow to give it the look of a tuxedo. This pillow looks difficult to make but is simple and can be completed in a few hours.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Choose a pillow form. A tuxedo pillow can be any size or shape so it is really up to you on the size of pillow.

  2. Step 2

Cut two squares of fabric the size of the pillow plus 1 inch. So if the pillow form is 12 inches you will need to cut 2 squares of fabric that are 13 inches by 13 inches. This will give you the seam allowance you will need to sew the pillow.

  3. Step 3

Cut the pillow the same length as the fabric. So for the example, a piece of ribbon 13 inches long will be needed.

  4. Step 4

Pin the ribbon to the center of one of the fabric pillow halves. Make sure that the ribbon is perfectly centered on the fabric and is pinned flat.

  5. Step 5

Sew each side of the ribbon to the fabric square. Make sure to sew a straight line as close to the edge of the ribbon as you can.

  6. Step 6

Lay the two fabric squares on top of each other with the right sides facing and pin them together. Sew three sides of the fabric squares together. Turn the pillow cover inside out so that the right sides are outwards and iron the pillow cover.

  7. Step 7

Place the pillow form in the pillow cover. Pin the unfinished edge of the pillow form to hold the pillow form in the cover. Stitch up the last side of the pillow cover. Iron the new seam and any wrinkles in the pillow to finished the pillow.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can use fusible tape to attach the ribbon to the front half of the pillow cover is you want to avoid sewing the ribbon to the pillow.
  • You can use batting in the place of a pillow form to get any size pillow that you want.
