Search for a stylish way to carry your digital camera and you may not find anything in your local department store. It's easy to make your own camera bag from materials you find at any local craft store. Here is how to make your own camera bag so you can carry your camera in style.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Fabric and matching thread
  • 1/2-inch dense foam
  • Sewing machine
  • Double needle
  • Velcro closure
  • Woven strap
  1. Step 1

Select your fabric. Make sure you select fabric that is smooth and soft for the inside of your camera bag to keep scratches to the finish of the camera to a minimum. Choose sturdy material for the outside of the camera bag that holds up to a lot of tossing around.

  2. Step 2

Cut a rectangle of dense 1/2-inch foam slightly wider than the camera's back, and long enough to wrap around to the front of the camera. Cut two more rectangles to cover the ends of the "box" and one more for the cover and to make the front flap on the top of the "box."

  3. Step 3

Place the foam on your fabric as a template and cut both interior and exterior fabrics 3/4 inch wider than the foam.

  4. Step 4

Sew each set of fabrics with a 1/2-inch seam allowance around three sides of all the parts, leaving one end open. Slide the foam into the open end and stitch closed.

  5. Step 5

Use a double needle to stitch each side and top flap to the largest rectangle. Be sure to finish each corner with an extra stitch for strength.

  6. Step 6

Finish the camera bag by adding a Velcro closure to the front flap and sew on a woven strap. Sew the strap and Velcro in an "X" and "box" fashion so it stays attached.
