Step 1
Grow your hair out all one length, at least to the top of your shoulders. Wearing bangs with this hairstyle is the most popular, but an A-line bob does not require bangs.
-
Step 2
Decide how dramatic you want your hairstyle to be before you let your hairdresser start cutting. An A-line bob can ease into an angle and soften the face with its subtle lines or it can be dramatic with sharp angles and straight lines.
-
Step 3
Part the hair in the middle and comb is straight out from the part. Comb the bangs down straight in front of the face.
-
Step 4
Start in the back by cutting the hair straight across the nape. Always cut hair when it is wet and, for the A-line bob, keep combing the hair and spraying it down so that you can get straight lines.
-
Step 5
Angle the lines of the hair downward toward the face, cutting in a straight sloping direction. During this step, you can decide to give the hair a sharp or subtle angle. Depending on how long the hair is in the front, you can make the bob line hang all the way below the collarbone. Cut one side completely then cut the other side to match.

Step 6
Cut the bangs straight across between the two sides, from one end of the forehead to the other.
