Keyframe is a universal term in video editing. In both Avid and Final Cut Pro editing systems, the editor adds keyframes in his timeline to adjust audio. You can add one keyframe to adjust an entire clip's audio level or you can add multiple keyframes to adjust audio highs and lows to get voices or music in the standard range. In Final Cut Pro, however, you can also add keyframes to adjust your video's opacity.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Make a Keyframe for an Audio Edit

Step1
Open your project and click on your sequence so that it opens in the timeline window.
Step2
Insert your audio clip into the timeline.
Step3
Click the line graph icon in the lower left hand corner of the timeline window to enable audio modification.
Step4
Select the arrow next to the line graph icon to check that your audio waveform monitor has a check mark next to it.
Step5
Grab your pen tool from your tool palette and click on the audio clip that you want to manipulate.
Step6
Raise or lower the keyframe by holding down your left mouse button and moving it up or down.
Step7
Make two additional keyframes next to each other to adjust the audio level within the same clip further down the timeline. Drag your second keyframe up or down and leave the first one alone so that you don't affect your original keyframe edit. This allows you to tweak audio that isn't monotone throughout your sequence. Chances are you'll have multiple keyframes in one clip.
