How to Log Off Windows XP

If you want to shut down the computer or simply change users, you must log off from Windows XP first. This process requires you to access the "Log Off Windows" dialog box from the Windows XP Start Menu. Follow the steps below.

      Save your work and close all programs by using the "Save" command and "Exit" command for each open program. If you don't save your work and close all the programs before logging off, you could lose valuable data or corrupt programs.

      Click the Start menu in the bottom left corner of the screen. The name of the person currently logged in will be displayed at the top of the menu.

      Select "Log Off" button on the bottom right side of the Start Menu. The "Log Off Windows" dialog box will appear on the screen.

      Click the "Log Off" button on the right side of the "Log Off Windows" dialog box. The dialog box will close and you will be taken to the Microsoft Windows XP login screen.

  • You can also log off from Windows XP by choosing "Shut Down" from the Start Menu. Choose "Log off" from the drop-down list to answer the question, "What do you want the computer to do?" Click the "OK" button to log off.
