How to Position Images and Text in Excel

Microsoft Excel has many functions designed specifically for their ease of use. One of these features is the ability to position text and images within a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. All it take to reposition your text and images is the ability to use a mouse.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Microsoft Excel. From the File menu, choose "Open" and select the file you want to work on. Double click the file name to open it.

    • 2

Move text by clicking on the cell that contains the text you want to position. The borders of the cell will turn black to let you know its active. Click on one of the borders, click the mouse button and hold down, dragging the cell to its new position.

    • 3

Position an image by clicking on the image first. Little white squares appear around the border to let you know the image is active, and your mouse pointer will have a black arrow cross under it. Click on the image, hold the mouse button down and drag the image to its new position.

    • 4

Nudge your image in small increments using your keyboard. Click on the image so it's active. Use the arrow keys on your keyboard to nudge your image in the direction you want it to go.

    • 5

From the File menu, choose "Save," and you're done.

Tips & Warnings

  • When you click on the border of a cell to position it, use the white arrow, not the fill handles, which are shaped like thin black crosses. These copy your data to adjacent cells, and they don't move your cells.

  • If you are unhappy with the move you've made, click "Undo" from the Edit menu.
