How to Set List Box Options in Adobe Acrobat
A list box allows users to select an item from a list that you provide. This popular form addition can be added and then modified in any form in Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional. Follow the steps below to set the list box options in Adobe Acrobat.

Start Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional and open a PDF that contains a form that has a list box on it to which you would like to set the options.

Choose the "List Box Tool" from the "Forms" toolbar. It is the fourth button from the left on the toolbar. Once you have chosen the tool, all the list boxes in the PDF will become outlined in black and surrounded with black sizing handles.

Right-click on the list box you want to set the options of and choose "Properties" from the menu. The "List Box Properties" dialog box will open.

Click the "Options" tab at the top of the "List Box Properties" dialog box to display the options for the selected list box.

Type the name of the first item you want users to be able to see in the list box in the "Item" text box. Type the value you want returned if that item is selected by a user in the "Export Value" text box. Click the "Add" button to add that item to the "Item List." Continue to add all the items you want to appear in the list box using the procedure outlined in the step above.

Select a list box item from the "Item List," and press the "Delete" button to remove it, the "Up" button to move it up on the list or the "Down" button to move it down on the list.

Check the "Sort items" option to sort the items numerically or alphabetically, the "Multiple selection" option to allow a user to select more than one item from the list box and/or the "Commit selected value immediately" to save a value right when a user picks it from a list regardless if they change their mind later. Click the "Close" button to close the dialog box and return to your form.

Display the "Forms" toolbar if necessary by choosing the "View" menu, pointing to "Toolbars" and clicking on "Forms."
