How to Make a Projection Screen
You can easily turn a room in your house into a home theater. Most people prefer to use a den, attic or basement. Although the projector itself may be costly, you can make the projection screen yourself very easily and cheaply. In fact, you can have a 100-inch diagonal projection screen in three hours for as little as one hundred dollars.

- Four pieces of 1 by 4 poplar boards
- Woodsaw
- 45 degree triangle
- 3 yards black velveteen fabric
- Fabric scissors
- Staple gun
- Drill
- 24 3/4-inch length flathead woodscrews
- Four flat 6-inch L brackets
- 53-inch white seamless paper

Pick out four pieces of 1 by 4 straight poplar boards at your local home improvement store. Ask the associate to cut two of the boards to 55.25 inches and the other two boards to 93.5 inches to save you a step at home.

Use your triangle and woodsaw to cut the ends of your boards at a 45-degree angle.

Cut your velveteen fabric into four strips with your scissors. Cut two strips 6.5 inches wide and 58 inches long. Cut the other two strips 6.5 inches wide and 96 inches long.

Wrap the velveteen fabric around the appropriate board lengths. Leave a 2-inch gap of wood showing on the front of each frame. Fold the fabric around the side and back of the board, fold the edges around the cut angle and staple the fabric into place.

Lay one of the longer boards perpendicular to a shorter board and drill six of your woodscrews through the L bracket into the exposed wood. Continue with the other two boards until all four corners are secure with your L brackets and wood screws.

Roll out your seamless paper and lay it over your frame. Pull the paper for a tight fit and staple over the exposed wood every 9 inches around the entire frame.

Tips & Warnings
Don't substitute another type of wood for your projection screen frame. Poplar is hard, smooth, straight and lightweight.
