How to Write a Theatrical Resume

Actors need to be able to promote themselves on paper. Without a professional theatrical resume, it is difficult for producers and directors to remember specifics and understand individual levels of experience. Below is a quick guide to what should be included in any theatrical resume.

Instructions

    • 1

Include all the usual biographical information as you would in a typical resume at the top of the page. Theatrical agents can't offer you a part if they can't get a hold of you. Be sure to include name, street address, phone numbers and an email address in your resume.

    • 2

List your experience in chronological order starting with the most recent first. This should be a list of plays, television shows, movies and commercials in which you had roles in the order of theater movies and then television. Commercials should come after and state whether "voice over" or "on camera." State the name location dates, producer or director's name and your role within the production.

    • 3

Create a section on educational background. This should include regular schooling such as high school and college but also include any acting workshops, theatrical training, drama and dance classes, speech and singing lessons. Training shows you are not only dedicated and serious but pliable and able to learn (something every director wants to see).

    • 4

Write down any specialist skills you have that could be important in casting. For example, if you have stunt training, speak a foreign language or can sword fight these skills although not acting related should be included. Anything that helps you stand out in a good way is a bonus and a must for you resume.

    • 5

Remember to include a head shot photograph of yourself with every resume. Write your name and address on the back and make it a semi matte black and white photograph. If you really can't manage professional head shots, write your eye, hair color and height at the top of your resume.

    • 6

Make lots of copies of your resume and take it with you on all auditions.
