There are two guard positions on every basketball team. The point guard and shooting guard are the two that run the offense. The point guard is the leader on the team. He must be able to handle the ball extremely well and pass the ball with ease. The shooting guard is usually the highest scorer on the team but must be able to assist the point guard in bringing the ball up the court.

Instructions

    Playing Point Guard

  1. Step 1

Bring the basketball up the court. The point guard is usually the best dribbler and is responsible for bringing the ball up the court.

  2. Step 2

Decide on which play to call out. Remember that the rest of your team is waiting on you to call out or signal the start of a play. Follow through with the offense that you call out, since your teammates will be in motion as soon as you signal it.

  3. Step 3

Pass the ball quickly and efficiently when your teammate is open at the end of a play. The point guard is the player that gets the most assists.

  4. Playing Shooting Guard

  5. Step 1

Find a way to get open if a play doesn't work out. If passed to him, the shooting guard must be ready at any time to shoot the ball.

  6. Step 2

Always be on the move. Take advantage of picks that are set, freeing you up to take an outside shot.

  7. Step 3

Guard the opponent's best perimeter shooter and stop her from hitting outside shots. Playing defense is an important role for the shooting guard.
