Weed eaters are one of the best pieces of lawn and garden equipment to have in your lawn care arsenal. The weed eater goes where lawnmowers can't and keeps yard looking neat and well groomed. After buying your weed eater a few simple steps will have you on the road to a more beautiful lawn and garden.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Remove the weed eater from its packaging and find the instructions. Most weed eaters come partially assembled right out of the box.

  2. Step 2

Join the shaft to the head if it is separate from the shaft. Most weed eaters require no tools and simply pop together with a little pressure.

  3. Step 3

Push the D-handle down onto the shaft housing so that the handle slants towards the shaft grip. The squared bolt hole in the handle is to the right.

  4. Step 4

Insert the shoulder bolt into the squared hole in the handle and push through. Place the washer on the bolt and screw in place.

  5. Step 5

Turn the D-handle so that the grip is above the top of the shaft housing and a minimum of 6 inches from the end of the shaft grip. Hold in place and finish screwing in the bolt until tight.

  6. Step 6

Attach the weed eater string to the head.

  7. Step 7

Add a gas mixture to your weed eater at a rate of 40:1 or to the specifications in the owner's manual.

Tips & Warnings
  • Look for weed eaters that have the pop and go self adjusting string feature for easier use. This feature allows you to tap the weed eater and release only the amount of string you need.
