How to Install a Used Pool Liner

If you are able to get your hands on a used pool liner that actually lines up with your pool's skimmer holes, then you can save yourself a lot of money. The process of installing a used pool liner is very similar to that of installing a new one. You just need to make sure the pool liner isn't damaged in any way before you begin the installation.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find a used pool liner. Liners tend to shrink with use. This means that the skimmer holes may not line up, even if they look like they will.

  2. Step 2

Visually inspect the used liner before you install it. Look for any tears or excessive stretching you may not have originally noticed.

  3. Step 3

Create a smooth pool liner support base. It will act as a buffer between the liner and the harsh terrain with stone, animal, insect, root and rock movement. Debris free masonry sand is a good choice. Begin at the outside of the pool and work your way to the center.

  4. Step 4

Unfold the used pool liner. Stretch it out to make it as wrinkle-free as possible. Line up the skimmer holes the best you can.

  5. Step 5

Fill the pool up with water. Since you're using a used pool liner, you need to make absolutely sure there's no leaking. Don't be surprised if it caves in when the pool is two-thirds full.

Tips & Warnings
  • For peace of mind, it's better to go with a new pool liner instead of trying to install a used pool liner. If you have the money, go ahead and buy yourself one that hasn't been previously installed.
