Water polo is gaining popularity in the United States. It's played in a pool by two opposing teams of seven players. Each team consists of six active players and a goalie. The object of the game is to outscore the opposing team within the allotted time of four 7-minute quarters. The rules of water polo aren't difficult to understand, and players score goals in at least four different ways.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

Ensure that the entire ball passes through the goal posts, over the goal line and under the crossbar. You may use any part of her body to score the goal with the exception of the clenched fist.

  2. Step 2

Score a goal from a neutral throw, similar to a jump ball in basketball, by gaining possession and passing along to your teammate or taking the shot yourself.

  3. Step 3

Use free throws to score goals, which are free passes granted for a fouled team member.

  4. Step 4

Get a goal throw. It's awarded you on defense if your opponent on offense throws the ball out of bounds on a goal shot.

  5. Step 5

Add to your score with a corner throws, which are awarded to you on offense if your defensive opponent causes the ball to go out of bounds during normal play.

  6. Step 6

Increase your scoring opportunities by taking advantage of Power Play situations. Also called man-up or 6-on-5, there's a player advantage here and another chance for a goal.

Tips & Warnings
  • Players must ensure that only one hand is in contact with the ball at all times.
