The striptease is not merely taking off your close to titillate an audience it is an art form that has been practiced since the beginning of dance. Learning how to gracefully and attractively take your clothes off while dancing takes a bit more than meets the eye. Choreographing a striptease takes elegance, smoothness, and style. Following are some steps to help you choreograph a striptease and pay homage to this sensual art.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Take some time early in the choreography process to find the perfect song to choreograph your striptease to. Decide whether you want to use a modern song or if you want to invoke a more antiquated and classic feel with an older song.

  2. Step 2

Visit a burlesque show and watch the performers. Make mental notes on how they move and what about their performances makes their movements sexy and alluring. Notice the way they move and the timing at which they take off various clothing items.

  3. Step 3

Start your dance by setting a tone. Get into a character, it may be a sexy nurse, or an alluring fireman, whatever the case you should feel like you are that character throughout the duration of the dance.

  4. Step 4

Tell a story with your choreography, if you are a nurse maybe finding some props such as a stethoscope or even a gurney might be a good addition to your striptease. Be creative with your dance and utilize anything that will help you to feel more confident in the dance you are creating.

  5. Step 5

Time the removal of clothing items so that by the end of the song you have removed as much clothing as you feel comfortable. Plan your outfit according to this tenent, so if you have a five minute song you need to ensure you have enough clothing on to remove in a five minute period.

  6. Step 6

Intersperse the removal of clothing with dance sequences; for example if you are wearing gloves take off one glove, do a bit of a dance (perhaps walking around the gurney if you are a nurse) and then remove the other glove. Timing is everything in a strip tease. Communicate your sexiness using not only your body but also your eyes and have fun.

Tips & Warnings
  • Look to other genres of dance for inspiration in striptease dancing; ballet, hip hop, ballroom dancing, and modern dance are good starts.
  • Consider using a pole in your striptease as this is the ultimate sensual symbol. Take some pole dancing classes to hone your pole skills.
  • Do not feel pressured to remove all of your clothing, leaving a little to the imagination is one of the magical secrets to striptease dancing.
