How to Make a Coffee Filter Jellyfish
A coffee filter jellyfish is a fun, easy and inexpensive craft that makes a unique room decoration. It also creates a perfect opportunity to talk with children about jellyfish and other marine life, and the importance of preserving the aquatic environment.
Things You'll Need
- Large coffee filters
- Colored markers or colored pencils
- Small plastic grocery bag
- Styrofoam cup
- Fishing line
- Waxed paper or tissue paper
- Spray bottle with water
- Stapler, glue or tape
- Stapler or waterproof glue
Instructions
-
-
1
Decorate two large coffee filters with colored markers or colored pencils.
-
2
Lightly mist the decorated coffee filters with water so the colors run and blend together. Set the damp coffee filters aside until they're completely dry.
-
-
3
Join the two decorated coffee filters together and stuff them very loosely with a bit of plastic from a plastic grocery bag to give the jellyfish a 3-D effect. Glue, tape or staple the edges of the coffee filters together with the stuffing inside.
-
4
Cut several streamers (tentacles) from waxed paper or tissue paper, and glue or staple them around the edge of the jellyfish.
-
5
Lay the coffee filter over the top of the Styrofoam cup.
-
6
Thread an embroidery needle with a piece of fishing line about 20 inches long, and then thread the fishing line through one side of the coffee filter and the Styrofoam cup, and out through the other side. The cup will be hidden under the coffee filter.
-
7
Tie the ends of the fishing line together, and use it to hang the jellyfish from the ceiling or a doorway.
