Pleated pants are a dressy alternative to straight-front pants and need to be ironed carefully to maintain the pleats. Whether you're new to ironing or need a refresher, here are some tips to guide you how to iron pleated pants.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Read the care instructions found on the tag inside of your pleated pants. Set your iron to the temperature and fabric setting indicated on the tag.

  2. Step 2

Turn the pleated pants inside out. Iron the waistband portion of the pants first and proceed to the pockets. Press the inner portion of the pocket flat against the ironing board.

  3. Step 3

Steam the pant legs to loosen the fibers in the fabric for easier ironing. Align the seams of the pleated pants to ensure a straight crease while you iron.

  4. Step 4

Move the iron up toward the waistband and follow the natural position of the pleats. Move in between each pleat in an up and down motion and proceed to the next side of the pleated pants.

  5. Step 5

Crease the pleated pants at the end of the pleats. Iron the crease down the middle of the pant leg.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you use starch, turn the pleated pants inside out and apply the starch to the inside of your pleated pants to avoid depositing residue on the outside of the pants.
  • Remove your pleated pants from the clothes dryer immediately to discourage wrinkles from setting in.
  • Be careful when working with the steam setting on your iron. You can easily scorch the fabric and your skin if you aren't careful.
