How to Back Out of Every Online Purchase

Websites like Amazon and eBay offer shoppers a hoard of any item they either wanted or didn't know they wanted. But in the case of not wanting to get what you've gotten in online shopping, there are a few simple ways to back out.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Select the item you wish to purchase. More often than not, websites will have the option of adding the item to your "shopping cart." This option allows you to buy several different items at once as opposed to the tedious task of doing it one at a time.
Step2
Click the button that should say something like "check out" or "buy." This will take you to a list of the items you chose to purchase. You will see them all lined up with a total at the bottom that may include shipping fees. Pay attention to how much shipping fees are because this could determine whether or not you want to buy the item. Some items are shipped from far away and can have outrageous shipping fees.
Step3
Remove the items from your shopping cart if you wish to back out of the online purchase. This would be the ideal time to decide if you want something or not. It involves nothing more complicated than simply clicking "add" or "remove."
Step4
Enter your billing information. This usually includes name, address, e-mail and credit or debit card number. You can add more information if you would like to receive updates in the mail, but it is not required. If you already have an account on this site, you can skip all this.
Step5
Log back into the website after purchase. You can usually track the progress of your order here. If you decide that you don't want it, find the button that says something like "cancel order/items." You'll be asked to log in with your password and then you can make changes to your order if it hasn't shipped yet. This is your last chance to cancel. Once it ships, you will be billed.
Step6
Contact your credit card company, if you bought the item with your credit card. Tell the credit card company you need to block the purchase from being made. Depending on the rules of your card company, you may be able to accomplish this.
Step7
Stop your check, if you paid by check. Visit your bank and fill out a stop check form. This will block the check from being cashed and help you back out of the online purchase.
