How to Make Sweet and Sour Eyeballs for Halloween

Things You'll Need

  • 1 1/2 lb. lean ground beef
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup bread crumbs
  • Salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • Sliced black or green olives
  • Approximately 3 Tbsp. vegetable oil
  • 2/3 cup grape jelly
  • 1 1/4 cups chili sauce

      Break the eggs into a small bowl and whisk them a few times.

      Place the ground beef in a bowl.

      Blend in the beaten eggs, and then add the breadcrumbs, salt and freshly ground pepper.

      Shape the meat mixture into meatballs about 1-inch in diameter and place a green olive slice in the middle of each one.

      Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet and saute the meatballs, stirring to be sure all sides are cooked.

      Mix the grape jelly and the chili sauce. Pour the mixture over the meatballs and simmer for about 25 to 30 minutes on medium-low heat. Turn the meatballs occasionally to be sure they cook evenly.

Tips & Warnings

  • Other jelly flavors are also delicious in sweet and sour eyeballs. For example, try apricot or peach jelly.
