Crafting your own turkey toothpick holder is a unique way to add a little homemade flair to your harvest season dinner table. Fill this turkey made from a clay pot with toothpicks and proudly display it during Thanksgiving celebrations for years to come.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Terracotta pot
  • Popsicle stick
  • Craft glue
  • Craft eyes
  • Black, brown, orange and red construction paper
  • Feathers
  1. Step 1

Draw the outline of a turkey's neck and head on brown construction paper. Make it proportionate to the size of pot you have for the project and cut it out.

  2. Step 2

Freehand or use a ruler to draw the outline of a pilgrim's hat on black construction paper. It should fit the turkey head that you drew. Cut this out.

  3. Step 3

Cut a tiny triangle out of orange construction paper for the turkey's beak. Also, cut out a thin strip of orange paper to be the band around the pilgrim's hat.

  4. Step 4

Aim to draw a tiny teardrop shape on red construction paper. Cut this out for the turkey's wattle.

  5. Step 5

Glue the turkey head to a frozen ice pop stick so that the stick reaches just to the top of the paper turkey head. Then glue the band on the hat and glue the hat onto the paper head.

  6. Step 6

Adhere the eyes, beak and wattle to complete the turkey's face. Then glue the stick to the inside of the pot.

  7. Step 7

Add feet to either side of the pot by outlining feet in pencil on the orange construction paper. Then cut them out and glue them on to the bottom of the pot.

  8. Step 8

Stick feathers onto the back of the inside of the pot for the turkey's tail. Reinforce them if necessary by propping them up with sticks and gluing sticks to the pot.

Tips & Warnings
  • Substitute a wooden skewer or a thick piece of sturdy cardboard if you don't have a frozen ice pop stick.
  • You can also use craft foam paper instead of construction paper. Some foam sheets also come with a peel off adhesive backing.
