Biscuits are a heartwarming comfort food that can be enjoyed at breakfast, lunch or dinner. They're quick to make and all you need to whip up a batch are a few ingredients you probably have in your cupboard. Drop biscuits are the easiest of all to make, as the batter is simply dropped by the spoonful onto a baking sheet--no rolling out the dough.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 3 tsp baking powder
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • Butter or margarine for greasing the pan
  • Baking sheet
  • 1 Large bowl
  • 1 Medium-size bowl
  • Large spoon for mixing ingredients
  1. Step 1

Preheat oven to 450 degrees Farenheit.

  2. Step 2

Grease the baking sheet with the butter or margarine.

  3. Step 3

Blend the dry ingredients in a large bowl.

  4. Step 4

Beat the egg, and then add the remaining wet ingredients to a medium-sized bowl.

  5. Step 5

Add the wet mixture to the dry mixture. Stir gently.

  6. Step 6

Scoop up a spoonful of batter and drop it onto a greased baking sheet. Repeat, leaving a space of two or three inches between spoonfuls.

  7. Step 7

Bake each batch for 12 to 15 minutes.

Tips & Warnings
  • This recipe yields 12 to 14 biscuits. Double the ingredients to make double the number of biscuits.
  • Drop biscuits are irresistible when they first come out of the oven, when they're warm. Even if you're saving the batch you're making for later, try one right away, split in half with butter or margarine.
  • Keep an eye on the biscuits as they bake, as they can burn quickly. Remove them from the oven when the tops of the biscuits have turned a golden brown.
