How to Make Blackberry Curve Maps Work

Tracking your exact location using "Blackberry Maps" or a free program like Google Maps is not difficult and only takes a bit of preparation and patience. Follow these steps to make maps work on a Blackberry Curve.

Instructions

1. Check that your Blackberry Curve is running device software v4.1 or v4.2.x and your cell phone provider offers Blackberry Maps (AT&T does not offer this service).

2. Verify that your home country (or the country that you're visiting) is included in the Blackberry Maps list. You cannot use "Blackberry Maps" if your country isn't listed.

3. Purchase a Bluetooth®-enabled GPS receiver as an add-on to the BlackBerry® Curve™ 8300 or BlackBerry® Curve™ 8320 as the GPS that comes with these two Blackberry Curves is built-in and slower (that is, a Bluetooth®-enabled GPS receiver will extend the GPS' range and data acquisition speed).

4. Read pages 159 through 164 of the Blackberry 8320 User Guide by following the link in the Resources section to better understand your Blackberry's basic map and GPS features.

5. Download and install Google Maps if you want to use free maps with your Blackberry Curve's GPS.

6. Choose "Options" and then "GPS" under your Blackberry Curves "Advanced Options" to change the GPS settings. Select your menu and "Refresh GPS."

7. Return to "Options" and then "Google Maps" under "Applications." On the menu, choose "Edit Permissions" and then, in connections, allow "Location (GPS)" and "Carrier Internet." Once you have saved these changes, Google Maps is ready for use with your Blackberry Curve's GPS.
