Step 1
Flip the over keyboard and gently shake it to remove any large crumbs. Gently tap the keyboard against something soft, like your lap.
-
Step 2
Choose from a battery powered keyboard vacuum--a USB vacuum which plugs directly into the computer and derives power from there--or attachments that fit directly onto the wand of a standard vacuum. Make sure the vacuum is static-free, has adequate suction power and that any attachments have soft bristles that won't damage the keys of the computer keyboard.
-
Step 3
Decide on how much suction power your keyboard dirt requires. The USB vacuums have the lowest suction followed by battery powered ones. Of course full-sized vacuums have the greatest suction but require special attachments that temper the power of the vacuum and reach into the tiny places easily.
-
Step 4
Reach in between the keys with the soft, flexible rubber attachment. Pick up any hair, dust and remaining crumbs visible in the keyboard.
-
Step 5
Shine a flashlight into the dark crevices of the keyboard to look for any remaining debris and use the vacuum to suction them out. If they are hard to reach, try tipping the keyboard to one side or the other, gently tapping to dislodge the debris from the computer keyboard.
