How to Wash Puma Sneakers

Finding that perfect pair of tennis shoes is like finding a treasure. Maintaining their appearance after you've broken them in, however, can truly be the mystery. If your treasure was a pair of Pumas, here are some ways to keep them looking fresh. Determine the type of material before cleaning, because different materials have different needs. Most sneakers have a tag on the inside with this information.

    Instructions

      • 1

Remove the laces from your Pumas before washing to prevent them from tangling up and to make it easier to clean them.

      • 2

Determine the type of material your shoe is made of, and follow the steps for that material.

      • 3

Wash nylon, canvas, synthetic leather and real leather Pumas with a soft cloth and a mild detergent. Scrub gently with cold water. If the shoe is made of leather, do not submerge in water. A soft bristle toothbrush is a great tool for cleaning the soles of your shoes.

      • 4

Clean suede and nubuck with a suede brush; soap and water isn't necessary.

      • 5

Allow shoes to air dry, removing the insert for quicker drying time. You can also stuff the shoe with paper towels or newspaper while it air dries to help it keep its shape.

    Tips & Warnings

    • To give longevity to your sneakers, Puma advises cleaning them directly after exposure to mud or dirt and keeping them away from extreme heat. Only use your Pumas for their intended purpose.

    • Don't use bleach or harsh chemicals on your Pumas, as it may damage the material or coloring of your sneaker.

    • Don't put Pumas in the washer or dryer.
