How to Use Vistaril to Control OCD

Vistaril, also known as Hydroxyzine, is a medication used to control anxiety and tension associated with psychoneurosis. Studies show a low incidence of addiction to Vistaril, making it a popular choice among doctors. It works quickly, so effects of the drug appear within 15 to 30 minutes, allowing fast, temporary relief from stress and anxiety associated with OCD.

1. Visit your doctor to discuss treatment using Vistaril. Inform him of drugs you are currently taking to avoid possible interactions. Since it's available by prescription only, use Vistaril under a doctor's care.
2. Take medication as directed, generally 50 to 100 mg up to four times daily. Be sure to continue using any other medications that your doctor prescribes.
3. Report side effects that are severe or don't go away. Side effects that have been associated with Vistaril include drowsiness, dry mouth, headache, tremors and convulsions.
