If you have already created a path in Adobe Photoshop CS3, you can add on to it to create a longer or different shaped path. The pen tool is used to pick up an anchor point that isn't connected to another anchor point.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Start Adobe Photoshop CS3, and open an existing document from your files that contains a path you previously created and now want to add on to.

  2. Step 2

Select the Pen tool from the Photoshop toolbox on the left side of the screen. The button is represented by a picture of a fountain pen. You may need to hold down the button and choose "Pen tool" from the pop-up menu.

  3. Step 3

Hover your mouse over an open anchor point on the path you want to add on to. An open anchor point means that there is nothing connected to one side of the point. A small shape will appear on the right side of your mouse cursor which is now in the shape of the pen. You want to make sure that the shape to the right of the pen is a square with two short lines on either side. If you see a plus sign or an "x" you do not have the mouse directly over the anchor point.

  4. Step 4

Click on the anchor point once you see the correct symbol. This will pick up the path so you can continue it.

  5. Step 5

Continue clicking to add additional anchor points to your path until you are happy with the size and shape of the continued path.
