How to Import GIF Animations Into Fireworks

An animated GIF can be opened and edited in Adobe Fireworks CS3. Importing an animated GIF is a straightforward process that leaves you with a Layers palette full of animation frames.

Instructions

    • 1

Start Adobe Fireworks CS3. Bring up the "Layers" palette, if necessary, by choosing the "Window" menu and clicking on "Layers" to display it.

    • 2

Choose the "File" menu from the top of the screen and click "Open" to bring up the "Open" dialog box.

    • 3

Select "GIF (*.gif)" from the "File of type" drop-down list near the bottom of the "Open" dialog box. This will instruct Fireworks to display only the GIF files on your computer.

    • 4

Use the "Look in" drop-down list and the large text box in the middle of the "Open" dialog box to find the animated GIF you want to open in Fireworks. Select the file by clicking it and choose the "Open" button to close the dialog box and open the animated GIF in Adobe Fireworks.

    • 5

Watch as the animated GIF is opened in Adobe Fireworks. The final stage of the animation will be on the big white document area in the center of the Fireworks screen. The Layers palette will list each frame of the animation as a separate layer.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also choose the "File" menu and click "Import," or the "Insert" menu and then click "Image" to open the animated GIF in much the same way as the procedure above.
