You can use the "Import" command in Adobe Fireworks CS3 to import vector objects into Fireworks. Vector objects are line-created objects made in programs such as Illustrator and Freehand. In Fireworks, you can control how these objects are imported into your documents.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Start Adobe Fireworks CS3, choose the "File" menu and click on "Import" to bring up the "Import" dialog box.

  2. Step 2

Use the "Files of Type" drop-down list to select the type of vector file you want to open in Adobe Fireworks. Vector objects can be saved as a variety of files, including Freehand and Illustrator.

  3. Step 3

Browse to find the vector file you want to import by using the "Look in" drop-down list and center of the "Import" dialog box. Select the file you want to import and click the "Import" button to close the dialog box and open the "Vector File Options" dialog box.

  4. Step 4

Type values in the "Scale," "Width" and "Height" text boxes to choose the size that you want to set for the imported vector object. Set the resolution of the imported vector object by typing a value in the corresponding text box.

  5. Step 5

Change the settings in the "File Conversion" and "Render as image" section of the "Vector File Options" dialog box if necessary. These options allow you to set how you want to open the object and the object's layers, as well as how you want the vector object to be rendered.

  6. Step 6

Click the "OK" button to close the "Vector File Options" dialog box and return to Fireworks. You will see the vector object file open on the desktop.
