How to Sew Bras
Finding a bra with the perfect fit can be a challenge for many women. So, sewing a custom-fit bra to create the garment of one's dreams is a great idea. And once you've made one bra, you can use your pattern to make a whole closet full of custom bras in a wide array of colors and fabrics.
Things You'll Need

Instructions

1
Create a pattern by dismantling a bra in your size and tracing the band, cups and straps.
-
2
Cut out the bra pattern. Make custom adjustments on the final pattern if necessary. Make identifying marks on each pattern piece and sewing directions to help with assembly before cutting out two bra cups from a cushioned fabric.
-
-
3
Sew the straight part of the bra cups to the center of the band. Use a reinforcing stitch to secure both cups in place.
-
4
Add elastic to the band's inside, cutting the elastic edges shorter than the band. Stretch the elastic to help when stitching to allow a secure fit.
-
5
Connect a strap to the top back of each cup, making sure everything connects evenly. Put the other end of the strap on the back of the band so they fit over each shoulder.
-
6
Measure and cut two pieces of cushioned fabric to fit underneath the bra cups for added shape and support. Tightly sew a piece of fabric under each cup leaving an opening on one end to insert the underwire then sew the fabric shut to contain the underwire.
-
7
Apply a hook-and-eye closer with adjustments for two or three sizes to the front or back of the bra (depending on the style of the pattern that you have chosen). Sew the hook to one side and the eye to the other side, making sure they connect and sew them tightly in place.
