How to Write Notes for a Math Test

Math can be a lot of work and you may feel overwhelmed at the thought of remembering all the formulas. Add note-taking to your study regimen and get the math grade you want.

Instructions

1. Know what material is important because this is what will be on the test. Ask your teacher if you are unsure. You want to write study notes for the important information.

2. Write everything in your own words to make sure you truly understand what you have read. You are more likely to remember something you can describe in your own words.

3. List each formula on a sheet of paper. Write the formula, an explanation of what the formula does and a sample question showing how the formula is used. Include each step you will need to complete the equation in case you forget how to do a step.

4. Create practice questions for each type of math problem that will be on the test. You can also use math problems from your homework which will allow you to check the answers when you are finished.

5. Write the question and leave enough space to calculate the answers. Put the formulas and explanations for each problem on a separate sheet of paper so that you aren't tempted to cheat while you are studying.

6. Include "BEDMAS" on your study sheet. "BEDMAS" stands for brackets, equations, division, multiplication, addition and subtraction which is the order of operations you need to follow in order to get the right answer in complex math.
