If you're tired of shaving, waxing or using depilatory creams, you're not alone. Millions of women endure the drudgery of removing unwanted hair from their bikini lines. There is a permanent hair removal solution, however, called electrolysis. A trained specialist, called an electrologist, inserts a needle into each hair follicle to remove individual hairs. Here's how.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate
Step1
Understand how electrolysis works. There are three methods of bikini line electrolysis. The first, galvanic electrolysis, produces an electric current which, upon reaction with the body's moisture and natural salts, produces lye. The lye destroys any hair with which it comes into contact. The second method, thermolysis, uses radio waves or high-frequency currents to kill hair follicles using heat. The blend method uses both galvanic and thermolysis electrolysis to speed up the hair removal process.
Step2
Know if you are a good candidate for bikini line electrolysis. Persons with light skin and dark hair see the best results with electrolysis. If you wear a pacemaker or have diabetes or another serious health condition, you should not get electrolysis. Women who are pregnant can undergo the procedure provided the electrologist uses the thermolysis method.
Step3
Choose your preferred bikini line style. Some women choose to have all pubic hair removed. Some just want the hair that would normally be visible when wearing a bathing suit or underwear removed. Some women want a solution that falls between these two extremes. Work with your electrologist to pick a style that best suits your needs and personal preferences.
Step4
Begin the bikini hair removal process. Since the technician individually zaps each hair follicle during electrolysis, it takes several months and a series of treatments before your bikini line is completely gone. As such, electrolysis is expensive and time-consuming.
