Plan the engagement party a significant amount of time before the wedding. It should not be too long after you announce your engagement. Not all couples have an engagement party, because sometimes the engagement is short and there isn't enough time to plan it.

Hold the engagement party in a relaxed atmosphere, like someone's home. The purpose of the engagement party is to get the bride's and groom's family and friends together so they can get to know one another before the wedding. This way they can help in the planning of the wedding.

Decide who will hold the engagement party. It can be the bride's parents, one of the bridal party or even a close friend of the bride's who throws the engagement party. Alternatively, the groom's parents, relatives or friends can throw the engagement party. In other words, anyone can host the engagement party.

Find a location to hold the engagement party. As mentioned in Step 2 a relaxed atmosphere is the primary thing you are looking for when having an engagement party. The bride's home is usually the first choice but it doesn't have to be there, a relative or close friend's home will also suffice. Find out who wants to host the party.

Step 5
Send invitations and specify that gifts are not required, although most people will bring gifts for the bride and groom. If it's a surprise, make sure this information is on the invitation.

Toast the future bride and groom. The parents of the bride, the parents of the groom or the best man can be the first to do this. Others may join in if they choose. Socialize and get to know the people you don't know already. These people will be part of your extended family.
