How to Answer Closed Interview Questions

Closed questions are answered with one word like yes or no. They can also be questions like 'how old are you?" or "where do you live?" The interviewer uses these questions to get quick answers to a series of questions.

1. Answer exactly what is asked and appear confident when you answer. Reveal only what you need to when you answer these questions. You might not want to provide too much information. Tell the truth, but only answer exactly what is asked of you.

2. Let the interviewer direct the questions and control the speed of the interview. Answer these questions directly with a quick response to keep the interview moving.

3. Respond to the questions as accurately as you can because the interviewer may be testing your knowledge of the company or the job. You want to appear confident and accurate.

4. Pay attention to the series of questions. You may be asked several questions about the same topic to determine your general attitude about an area.

5. Allow the interviewer to close the topic by not asking questions of your own. You will have an opportunity to ask questions and explain your opinions at a later time.

6. Stay calm and appear relaxed, even if you are answering questions that you can't expound on at this time.
