Starting a nine-piece metal band can be hard work but well worth the long hours when the money starts coming in. Not only is a metal band a good financial investment, but it can be great fun for everyone involved.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Gather a group of your friends or acquaintances that you know how musical abilities. Tell them about your idea of starting your own metal band, and find out who would be interested in participating.

  2. Step 2

Decide who will play what in your band. In a successful nine-piece metal band there is usually one lead singer, two guitarists, three drummers, one bass player, one keyboard player and a DJ. However, this is your band so you can have whatever instruments you choose.

  3. Step 3

Practice a few times a week. This is the only way you are going to get better. If you or other band members have written songs, practice these along with some familiar cover songs so you can all get the feel for each others playing style.

  4. Step 4

Dress the part of a metal band. Most will wear all black with chains and colored hair. Many metal bands wear costume masks as well. Discuss it with your band to determine what the best look may be.

  5. Step 5

Play local clubs and private parties whenever you get the opportunity. You will not make a lot of money playing these venues because you have to split the earnings nine ways, but you will get your name out to metal band lovers in your area.

  6. Step 6

Record a demo of a few of the best songs your band plays and send them to some independent record labels in your region. This is an inexpensive way to get more exposure to the industry.

  7. Step 7

Book and play as many gigs as possible, this is how you get a major following. Be patient and diligent, it can often take years to break into the industry.
