LimeWire is a popular peer-to-peer sharing program that allows users to exchange files. The program itself lets you share just about any music or video, but sometimes they are copyrighted materials. If you have copyrighted material you wish to share through LimeWire, you must use their filtering process.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Go to the LimeWire and access their Filtering System homepage. You can find the link on the About web page.

  2. Step 2

Create a new account and type in all the necessary information. An activation email will arrive in your inbox shortly after. Click on the link inside the email to activate your account.

  3. Step 3

Return to the LimeWire Filtering System homepage and type in your user name and password. Your user name will be the email address you used to sign up for your account.

  4. Step 4

Fill out your copyright owner information. When you are finished, click the "Save and Register a File" button on the bottom of the page. You may also click "Save and Add a New Owner" if you wish to file more than one owner for a different piece of copyrighted material.

  5. Step 5

Type in the necessary information for the copyrighted material on the Registered Filtered File page. Make sure to fill out all the fields, and check all appropriate boxes.

  6. Step 6

Click "Save" when you are done. If you have another file to register, click the "Save and Register Another File" button. Your copyrighted material is now registered on the LimeWire Filtering System.

on 4/15/2009 Limewire is good, as long as you are careful not to download viruses and the filter is not always reliable. I have also found this a slightly more reliable site to be a great source of virus free music: http://tinyurl.com/virus-free-music
