Step 1
Create a first aid kit. Remember to include band aids and anti-bacterial cream. Many snorkelers who come in contact with coral reefs suffer cuts and abrasions due to their jagged surface. In addition, reefs are living organisms full of bacteria.
-
Step 2
Pack a bottle of sunscreen with a high SPF number. While snorkeling your back, arms and legs will be exposed to direct sunlight and can result in intense sunburns. Apply generously to all exposed areas to avoid burns.
-
Step 3
Bring additional clothing to avoid sunburns. Many snorkelers will wear a t-shirt to protect their backs. Another option is to bring a wet suit, as this not only keeps children warm--it also protects their entire bodies from the elements.
-
Step 4
Take an a life vest for each child snorkeling. Life vests are the most important safety aspect of any snorkeling excursion.
-
Step 5
Include masks and flippers that your child has already tried on and you are confident fit properly. Without a mask and flippers you cannot properly observe undersea life.
-
Step 6
Squeeze in an underwater disposable camera. These inexpensive cameras help get children excited about their snorkeling adventure. It is also a great way to give your child responsibility and have a lasting memory.
-
Step 7
Find enough towels, because after snorkeling your children will not only be wet but cold. A high-quality towel will solve both problems for your child.
