Step 1
Realize that Mom reads newspaper statistics that tell her seven out of 10 TV shows that teens watch contain sexual references. Somehow she makes the jump from "You're watching it" to "You might be doing it." Tell her you'll be the next 40-year-old virgin so she'll quit worrying.
-
Step 2
Change the channel to a nature show until she leaves the room, and then turn the channel back to your show. You can also turn the TV off and pick up a book. She'll be so thrilled that you're reading she'll leave the room so that you can turn on the TV again.
-
Step 3
Watch TV shows on the Internet. More and more networks place episodes of their more popular shows on their websites, sometimes as early as the next day, and they're free with limited commercial interruptions.
-
Step 4
Download TV shows to your iPod when they become available. If Mom wants to know what you're watching, just tell here that you're listening to music. Most Moms don't want anything to do with listening to your music.
-
Step 5
Figure out what Mom really wants. Although doubtful, she could be interested in the same TV show or she might be in worry mode and want to have one of those "discussions" about drugs or sex. However, if the only time she sees you is when you come out of your bedroom to watch TV, she could just be missing the sight of you. Try giving her a little more of the bonding time she craves, and maybe she'll leave you alone to watch your TV shows.
