Step 1
Choose where you'll use your linens before going to the store. For a special dinner party, it will be easy to find a plain white or cream tablecloth. If overnight guests are headed your way, think about covering a small round table with a cloth coordinated to your guest room decor. You can customize it to give your guests a special welcome. You child will also appreciate a personalized tablecloth for her next tea party.

Step 2
Sew grosgrain or velvet ribbon borders in the colors of your choice. If you don't want to sew, use fabric glue or iron-on fusible webbing. Neither will be permanent, but both are remarkably strong.
-
Step 3
Buy fringe and attach it to the tablecloth edges. You can even use a hot glue gun to glue it on. Your embellished tablecloth will be ready in minutes.
-
Step 4
Paint on designs or even names of your family or guests. If you're artsy, you can freehand the writing, but don't hesitate to use rubber stamps or stencils. Make sure you buy paint especially made for fabric.
-
Step 5
Change your tablecloths with the seasons. For autumn, stencil leaves in brilliant fall colors. Embellish a Christmas tablecloth with deep red velvet trim. For a Fourth of July party, buy a sparkling white one and trim the edges with shiny red and blue buttons.
