Corrosion is a form of oxidation. It is the chemical or electrochemical reaction between metal materials and the environment or weather conditions of rain, water or moisture. It can also be a chemical reaction created by rust eating into the metal and producing the metal deterioration. There are a number of safe products, which are environmentally friendly and easy to use in preventing or removing corrosion. Read on to learn how to buy corrosion control products.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Prevent, eliminate or control metal corrosion by applying a corrosion control product to the metal. Follow the directions or instructions on the bottle or container to determine how to apply the product and how often.

  2. Step 2

Store all loose or unused metal parts in VCI packaging. They should be clean and dry before packaging to protect against corrosion and making them ready for use at any time. When the parts are unwrapped or opened, the protective layer dissipates.

  3. Step 3

Open and reseal the packages without affecting the corrosion protection, but do not touch the metals during the inspection.

  4. Step 4

Keep an inventory of VCI papers and film for a period of no longer than six months. Store them out of direct sunlight and in a cool, dry place.

  5. Step 5

Research the many types of corrosion control products such as cleaners, lubricants, powders and specialty product options online or in stores to determine which product will work best for you.

  6. Step 6

Compare product makeup, the application process and prices before making any purchases.
