Entrance knob sets, also called lock sets, are available in many different styles as well as levels of security. The following steps will show you how to remove basic entrance lock sets with a key hole on the outside and a turning lock button on the other side, which is the most common entrance lock set.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Phillips head screwdriver
  • Flat head screwdriver
  1. Step 1

Unscrew the two screws that are holding the door knob in place on the inside of the door with a Phillips head screwdriver. Pull out the screws.

  2. Step 2

Pull off the inside knob of the lock set.

  3. Step 3

Remove the outside knob of the lock set, which will now be loose as well.

  4. Step 4

Look around the cover of the lock set to look for a small notch along the edge. Slide a flat head screwdriver into the notch and pull it toward you as you angle the screwdriver's handle. The cover should simply pop off the door.

  5. Step 5

Use the screwdriver to remove the screws that hold the lock with the face plate on the side of the door. Remove these screws.

  6. Step 6

Take off the face plate and then remove the lock.

  7. Step 7

Remove the two screws on the strike plate. Pull off the strike plate as it should come off easily.

Tips & Warnings
  • If there are no screws that you can see on the knob, look at the stem, which is directly beyond the knob. You will see a small button on the side and you will need to press the button with a flat head screwdriver. At the same time, pull the knob out as it slides off the stem of the lock set.
