How to Record SHOUTcast Streams in Winamp

Winamp is an audio application you can use to listen to your music files and tune in to audio streaming podcasts. Sometimes you might want to record a streaming audio session. Winamp has the capability to record and save streams from websites like SHOUTcast to your computer, provided you use the right plug-in. Read on to learn how to record SHOUTcast streams in Winamp.

Instructions

1. Follow the resource link to the LAME download page. You must install this plug-in, which is made specifically for the Winamp application.

2. Download the application to your computer. Once this is done, double-click on the EXE file to install the plug-in for Winamp.

3. Open your Winamp application. Go to "Preferences" and choose the LAME plug-in for the output application. Press "Save" to finalize your changes.

4. Go into the LAME configuration dialog window and change the settings to however your prefer. Change your output directory to wherever you wish to save your SHOUTcast stream. Click on "Save" when you are done.

5. Click on the stream you want to record. When you are finished, press the stop button on your Winamp interface.

Tips & Warnings

• If no MP3 file is generated from saving the stream, it might be a DRM-protected file. This may also be the case for protected WMA files.
