The Apple iTunes Store is great for downloading your favorite songs, but the catalog is not unlimited. In addition, you can only buy some songs as part of an album from the iTunes Store. Another place for inexpensive, legal music downloads is Wal-Mart Music Downloads (a plus is that all of the songs on this service are in MP3 format, and therefore are DRM-free). Read on to learn how to get Wal-Mart downloads onto an iPod.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • PC with Windows 2000, XP, or Vista; OR a Mac with Boot Camp or virtualization software
  • Internet Explorer
  • Credit card
  1. Step 1

    Go to the Wal-Mart website.

  2. Step 2

Click on the "Entertainment" tab and select "MP3 Downloads." You must have Windows 2000 or later to use this service (earlier versions of Windows are not supported).

  3. Step 3

Browse through the offerings and select the songs or albums you want to buy, and add them to your shopping cart. When you are ready to buy, complete the checkout process (the pages will lead you through it). Your music will start downloading as soon as your payment has been approved.

  4. Step 4

Drag the MP3 files into iTunes on your computer. Organize your new music into your playlists.

  5. Step 5

    Synch your iPod within iTunes.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you have a Mac, make sure you use Boot Camp or other virtualization software (Fusion, Vista in Parallels or Virtual PC). Wal-Mart music downloads won't work with the native Mac environment. Once in the PC environment, complete the steps as described. If you have a Mac and a PC, you can also download the music to the PC and transfer to your Mac via CD, USB drive or email.
  • You must use Internet Explorer. Other Internet browsers are incompatible with Wal-Mart music downloads.
