Do you want to add your own touch to your Icy Tower game? Do you want your own character besides Harold climbing the walls or your own music playing? Modifying games is not meant for noobs, but with the right software, you could create your own mod of the game.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Icy Tower game
  • Allegro Grabber
  • Image-editing software
  • Music-editing software
  1. Step 1

Download and install a modifier software program. Allegro Grabber may work best for this game. Run the program once it's installed--if it has a password box, use your Icy Tower password.

  2. Step 2

Locate the data for your Icy Tower game on your computer. It should be saved on your C: drive. Go to the "Games" folder, then the "icytower" folder, then the "Data" folder.

  3. Step 3

Open the data file you want to modify in the modifier program. "Data.dat" will have the graphics data. Select "aaapal" as the correct palette by double clicking it.

  4. Step 4

Export an image to your hard drive by right-clicking it and selecting export. You can now change the image with an image editing program. Once done, right-click the original image, select grab and choose the edited image.

  5. Step 5

Repeat the process with the "sfx13.dat" file to edit the sound. Here you will likely be editing with MP3 files you recorded or created through a music editing program.

Tips & Warnings
  • When you save or export files for editing, select "Save Stripped" from the File menu and strip all the grabber info. Now you can immediately find your image when importing it.
  • If you don't use the "Save Stripped" process, then when you try to import a file, you'll first be sent to a fake directory where the creator originally stored the graphics. You'll need to search for the folder with your files.
