How to Install Subversion on Mac OS X

Subversion is a software that allows multiple users to edit one software or file and revert back to previous versions when necessary. Subversion is designed for the Mac OS and is used for different kinds of files from simple text documents to complex software code.

Instructions

    • 1

      Download Subversion from mac.com.

    • 2

Open the file that downloaded and click ".pkg-installer." Allow the file to run and install Subversion.

    • 3

Locate the "Application Utilities" terminal and type "SVN" then press "Enter." If you don't receive an output line, type "export PATH=$PATH://sr/local/bin." Open the terminal again and type "SVN."

    • 4

Locate a SVN Server to host your project. Both free and fee-based SVN severs are available. Fee-based severs give you more space on the server and the servers are generally more stable than free servers.

    • 5

Log in to the server you chose in Step 4 and start or create a new project. Some servers have a short sign up and instant access. Other servers take time to approve new users.

    • 6

Upload the file or project you want to edit onto the server. The amount of space you receive on the server depends on the sever you choose.

    • 7

Instruct all of the other users on how to install Subversion and log on to the server.
