How to Format a Nokia N73

As cell phones become more sophisticated, many users find they've accidentally filled the phone to capacity or, even worse, downloaded something that's interfering with the functioning of the phone. The N73 by Nokia is no exception. In fact, the complexity and number of features possessed by this phone makes it even more likely that unrestrained access will cause problems. In some cases, formatting is your only option.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step1
Perform a soft format of your phone by dialing *#7370# just as you would any other phone number. This will erase the contents of the phone's internal drive.
Step2
Use a hard format only if absolutely necessary; this sequence will reset your phone back to its original factory settings.
Step3
Turn your phone off.
Step4
Hold down the green answer, * and 3 buttons.
Step5
Switch the phone on without releasing the buttons.
Step6
Release the buttons when "aFormattinga" appears on the screen.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you try to format your phone and it doesn't work, upgrade your software. The early versions of the N73 could not be formatted.
  • Decide if formatting is really your only option. Manually delete and fix problems, and if your phone is serviceable by your cell company, take it to them first.
  • Understand that performing a format will likely void any warranty your phone may possess. In most cases, format procedures are undocumented for a reason.
  • Charge your battery before performing any format. If your battery runs out of power during a format, you can irreparably damage your phone.
