Your mother probably always told you not to wear clashing colors. Traditionally, it has been against the fashion grain to wear red and pink, green and blue, or brown and black in the same outfit. However, as fashion trends change, more and more people are wearing colors side by side that no one would have dared to wear just a few years earlier. In this article, we will discuss how to wear red and pink together without looking like a fashion disaster.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Solid black pants or dark jeans
  • Solid red or pink shirt
  • Solid red or pink scarf
  • Solid black or jean jacket (optional)
  • Chunky gold or silver jewelry

How to Wear Red and Pink Together

Step1
Tie the clashing colors together with a dark, neutral tone. Black pants and a black jacket can bring even red and pink into harmony. The dark color causes the eye to focus more on the vibrancy of the colors than on their relationship to each other.
Step2
A printed pattern like this one looks like a mistake. Wear bold chunks of color. Wear solid chunks of the conflicting colors.Do not attempt to combine red and pink in a print. Red and pink prints will always clash, no matter how badly we hope that they will not do so. Instead of a print, wear a bright red shirt with a pink scarf, or a pink shirt with a red jacket (if you choose to do the latter, make sure that you wear dark pants). This causes the eye to process the colors individually instead of in a group.
Step3
Bring everything together with chunky jewelry. Large, solid pieces of jewelry will help bring red and pink together. Choose square, gold earrings and a large gold bangle, for example, to stay in keeping with the solid blocks of color.
Step4
Stay bright. Pastels tend to pick up tones from brighter colors. Because red is a very bold hue, you will need to select an equally bold pink in order for this look to work.
