Today the choices range from expensive depilatories and laser hair removal, to electric razors, to soap in a can and disposable blades. 1. How To Shave Using a Mug and Brush

    • 1

Wash your face with hot, soapy water to help condition the skin and open the pores to expand the facial hair. Pat your face dry with a towel.

    • 2

Place shaving soap into the shaving mug or scuttle. Fill the mug with hot water. Place the shaving brush, bristle side down, into the mug.

    • 3

Wait 45 seconds to 1 minute to allow the soap to absorb some of the water. Remove the brush from the water and shake out excess water. Pour the water from the mug.

    • 4

Brush the bristles of the shaving brush rapidly across the shaving soap in a circular motion to produce a rich, foamy lather. Brush the lather onto the portions of your face that need to be shaved.

    • 5

Rinse the shaving edge of your razor with hot water. Shave by drawing the razor over the desired area with the grain (in the direction of hair growth) until all unwanted hair is removed. Rinse the razor blade frequently to remove soap and stubble.

    • 6

Reapply soap using the shaving brush. Shave by drawing the razor over the desired area against the grain, or the direction of hair growth, to obtain an even closer shave.

    • 7

Rinse the razor and put it away. Rinse your face off with hot water and pat dry with a towel. Apply after shave lotion if desired.

    • 8

Rinse the shaving brush out with hot running water. Shake out the excess water and allow it to air dry. Rinse excess lather from the shaving mug, empty excess water and allow the mug to air dry.
