Paramount to bicycle safety is making sure that your ride is in good shape every time you jump onto the saddle. It doesn't have to take long -- learn this quick check routine and you'll always start pedaling with confidence.To do this check, just remember "ABC Quick Check" -- here's how to do it.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Bicycle
  • Tire pressure gauge or tire pump

    How to do a Quick Check of a bicycle

  1. Step 1

    Think "A" -- Air. Check to see that your tires are properly inflated. If you have a gauge, fine. If not, just tap on the tire and give it a quick squeeze.

  2. Step 2

    Think "B" - Brakes. Squeeze the brakes and make sure they're moving properly and touching the rims in the proper spots. Take a look at your pads, too -- if they're excessively worn, change them or make an appointment at the local bike shop.

  3. Step 3

    Think "C" -- Chain. Make sure the chain in position and is tight -- chains will stretch over time.

  4. Step 4

    Think "Quick" -- Quick Releases. Make sure your tire's quick release levers are engaged and that they are properly tightened.

  5. Step 5

    Think "Check" -- You're done! Go enjoy your ride.
