Step 1
Define what success means to you. Dig within yourself and evaluate what is important and valuable to you: is it your career, health, financial status, spirituality or a combination of things? You must define what will make you feel personally successful before you can move forward with becoming a success.
-
Step 2
Set long term and short term goals. Once you have defined success for yourself you can set benchmarks that will keep you on track for reaching your ultimate goals. Be sure to set challenging yet achievable goals for yourself that can be evaluated along the way.
-
Step 3
Be proactive. Defining success and setting goals are the foundation for being successful but are meaningless unless you take action at achieving them. Make yourself responsible for working on achieving your goals every day.
-
Step 4
Learn to be flexible. Even the best plans sometimes get off track; accept that achieving success is a journey and that sometimes the previously mapped out route needs to be altered to get there.
-
Step 5
Enjoy the journey. While the road to success can at times become bumpy and uncomfortable, embrace the unknown and continue to participate in activities that are fun and exciting.
-
Step 6
Commit to learning. No matter what your goals are or your definition of success is, you must commit to learning new things that are pertinent to your individual goals. Surround yourself with people that can teach you different ways to reach your goals and learn from their mistakes.
-
Step 7
Remain positive. While it is not reasonable to be positive all day every day, it is important to focus on the positive aspects rather then the negative. When you have an optimistic attitude you are more motivated to act on your goals and ultimately reach them.
