How to Complement Your Outfit with the Right Shoes

  1. Step 1

Don't worry about exact matches. For casual, summer dresses, try not to match your shoe to the exact color of a solid print dress. This look can be tacky. For example, wearing a hot pink strapless bubble dress with hot pink shoes may be a bit overwhelming. Instead, pair those dresses with shoe colors that complement the dress. If the dress is multi-colored, where a shoe that has one of the colors that is in the dress. If the dress is casual, your shoe should be casual. Pair a breezy, summer dress with sandals. Leave the clunky closed-toe heels at home.

  2. Step 2

Bring on the stilettos for club dresses. These heels should be high and sexy and should complement your outfit. In this case, shoe choices can be more bold and eye-catching, but make sure that they don't overwhelm the dress. If you are wearing a print dress, don't wear it with the same or different print shoe. Wear a solid color shoe that complements the color of the dress.

  3. Step 3

Choose chic, sophisticated heels for business suits. These shoes should be comfortable, and generally not flashy. Pair a black business suit with red heels for bit of fashion, or go with fashionable, but conservative black pumps for a strict workplace.

  4. Step 4

Pair high-waisted shorts and pants outfits with a high heel and stick with stilettos. This will elongate your legs and complement the outfit. Shoes can be bold and stylish in this case as well.
